 The German Borreliosis Society

The German Borreliosis Society is an association of scientists and physicians who are concerned with Lyme and associated diseases. Its goal is to develop and promote the scientific and practical knowledge about the complex and diverse illness, especially in advanced stages.

Specifically, the German borreliosis society has the following objectives:

  • organisation of conferences and workshops to promote
    • the professional dialogue between research, clinic and practice
    • and the medical training certified by the medical associations
  • promotion of science and research to advance the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of this widespread disease
  • advice of medical doctors and of political and government institutions
  • development of guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease and co-infections and their update corresponding to the current state of knowledge.

The German Borreliosis Society is a non-profit organization funded by membership fees and tax deductible donations. It was founded in 2004 and currently has nearly 280 members, including  Dr. Dr. hc mult. Willy Burgdorfer as honorary member. He discovered the spriochete Borrelia burgdorferi in 1981.
